AIIB to provide $304 million for Assam Power Transmission Project :

In order to strengthening the electricity transmission system in the Assam, the central government has signed a loan agreement worth $304 million with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) . The project will build new networks of 10 transmission substations in the state. Apart from this, 15 existing substations will also be upgraded under the project and some of the existing transmission lines will be converted into the optical power wire.

175th anniversary of the first publication of Orunodoi

Orunodoi was the first Assamese-language magazine published in January 1846, printed by the Baptist Missionary Press in Sibsagar under the editorship of Oliver T. Cutter. This was also the first newspaper of entire North East India. On the occasion of the completion of 175 years of Assam’s first newspaper ‘Arunodoi’, Asam Sahitya Sabha celebrated ‘Arunodoi Divas’ in Sivasagar on January 1st. Note that in 1871, another local newspaper was started in Majuli, by Auniati Satra, the newspaper was called Assam Bilashani.

‘Mahabahu-Brahmaputra’ initiative was launched in Assam

PM Narendra Modi virtually launched the ‘Mahabahu-Brahmaputra’ initiative in Assam for connectivity to Eastern India and to develop the areas around river Brahmaputra and river Barak  . Mahabahu-Brahmaputra initiative is going to be marked with the inauguration of the Ro-Pax vessel operations between the Neamatighat & Majuli, Dhubri-Hatsingimari and North-South Guwahati.   The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone of Dhubri Phulbari bridge and performed bhumi pujan for Majuli Bridge construction. The initiative will help provide seamless connectivity to Eastern Parts of India.

State of emergency announced in Myanmar

The military of Myanmar has taken control of the country and a one-year state of emergency has been announced. Further, State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and other government leaders have been detained. The state emergency was announced because the government was failed in tackling the situation of Covid-19 pandemic

The largest Shiva Linga in the world :

the Maha Mrityunjaya Temple is the world’s largest 126-feet-tall  Shiva temple,  located in Narasimha Kshetra near Puranigudam in Nagaon district of Assam. The construction of the World’s largest Shiva Linga started in 2003 and the site of the temple is believed to be the very place where guru Shukracharya performed yajna in ancient times. 

A Dubai model Tea Park to set up in Assam

A Tea Park will be set up at at Chhaygaon in Assam as per the model of Dubai Tea Park. The Tea Park would house all necessary components including tea auction centre, tea museum, warehousing facilities, processing facilities like tea grinding, blending, packaging and other utility services under one roof.

'Bajali' Becomes the 34th Full-Fledged District of Assam

Bajali, a Civil subdivision under the Barpeta district, has become the 34th full-fledged district of Assam.

Chandrayaan-3 launch delayed to 2022:

The launch of Chandrayaan-3, India’s third lunar mission, has been delayed to 2022 amid coronavirus pandemic. If successful Chandrayaan-3 could make India the fourth country to successfully soft-land on the moon.

India, Afghanistan sign MoU to build Shahtoot Dam in Kabul :

India and Afghanistan on Tuesday signed an an agreement to build the Shahtoot Dam on the basin of Kabul river provide drinking water facility in the Afghan capital. This is the second major dam being built by India in Afghanistan after Salma Dam.

India's first digital Union Budget :

India’s first digital Union Budget was presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on 1st February ,2021. This is the first time since independence that Budget documents will not be available in physical form. 

India's first geothermal power project :

India’s first geothermal power project will be established at Puga village of eastern Ladakh. This power project, known as Geothermal Field Development Project is planned to commission by the end of 2022. The tripartite MOU was signed between ONGC Energy, LAHDC, Leh and the Power Department of UT Ladakh.

World's Largest cricket stadium :

Sardar Patel Stadium, the world’s biggest cricket stadium was renamed as Narendra Modi Stadium. This stadium is located in Ahmedabad and has a seating capacity of over 1 lakh.
