The Assam assembly passed the Assam Ease of Doing Business (Amendment) Bill, 2020 :

The Assam Ease of Doing Business (Amendment) Bill, 2020 makes amendments to the Assam ease of doing business act, 2016. The amendment will avail 0.25% additional borrowing from the centre. Under the new Amendment Bill, the government has committed to create an investor friendly atmosphere in the state of Assam.

Rajiv Kumar Bora Appointed as APSC Chairman :

The State Government on Monday appointed Rajiv Kumar Bora as the new Chairman of the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC). Mr. Bora was a 1985 batch IPS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre and was served as the chairman of the Assam Administrative Tribunal

'Asom Mala' project launched in Assam :

Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi launched ‘Asom Mala’ at Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur District, Assam. ‘Asom Mala’ has been started in line with ‘Bharat Mala Project to build a network of broad roads and connectivity for all villages and modern cities.

17th 'Sahitya Manishi Upaban' held at Baitamari, Baghmara :

Assam Minister for Environment and Forest, Parimal Suklabaidya inaugurated the 17th edition of ‘Sahitya Manishi Upaban’. It is an initiative taken by the Assam Government to revive the biodiversity of the state. 24 Biodiversity parks will be setup in Assam under the name of ‘Sahitya Manishi Upaban’.

Padma Bhushan 2021 for former Chief Minister Late Tarun Gogoi :

Assam’s longest-serving ( 3 terms ) chief minister, Late Tarun Gogoi,  has been selected for the prestigious Padma Bhushan award for his exceptional and distinguished service in Public Affairs.  The Padma Awards are the highest civilian awards in the country, given in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. These awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year. Along with Late Tarun Gogoi, 8 other personalities from Assam has been awarded the prestigious Padma Shree Award this year. The list of the Padma awardees from Assam is-

Republic Day Journalism Award 2021 :

Eminent journalist Atin Das was conferred the Republic Day Journalism Award 2021 by the Information & Public Relations Department. This award is for his immense contribution in the field of journalism.

Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar 2021:

Four children from northeast India have been selected for the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar in this year on Republic Day. The Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar is awarded to children every year to recognize their excellence and outstanding efforts made in several fields such as innovation, arts and culture, scholastics, sports, social service and bravery.  Tanuj Samaddar, a young artist from Assam has received this year’s Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar under the Art and Culture category. 32 children received the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar this year. The youngsters from North Eastern states who have been conferred the award in various categories are –

  • Tanuj Samaddar from Assam (Art and Culture)
  • Venish Keisham from Manipur (Art and culture)
  • Arshiya Das from Tripura (Sports) and
  • Ayush Ranjan from Sikkim (Innovation)

Lt General Rana Pratap Kalita from Rangia awarded with Uttam Yudh Seva Medal :

Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita ( from Rangia ) has been awarded with Uttam Yudh Seva Medal on Republic Day 2021 . Uttam Yudh Seva Medal is awarded to recognize the distinguished service of an exceptional order during war/ conflict/ hostilities. Earlier, Lt General Kalita was honoured with ‘Sena Medal’ and ‘Vishisht Seva Medal’ (twice) for his outstanding service.

ADB Approves $231 Million Loan for a Hydropower Project in Assam :

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $231 million loan to develop the  Hydroelectric Power facility in Assam over Lower Kopili river. This Power facility will utilize water from the Kopili river to produce around 120 MW of electricity and will double the hydropower generation capacity of APDCL.

Government announces 23rd January to be celebrated as “PARAKRAM DIWAS’ every year

In order to honour and remember Netaji’s indomitable spirit and selfless service to the nation, Government of India has decided to celebrate his birthday on the 23rd day of January every year as “PARAKRAM DIWAS” .The central government has decided to observe the day as Parakram Diwas to inspire people of the country, especially the youth, to act with fortitude in the face of adversity as Netaji did for the nation.

New Chairman and CEO of Indian Railway Board

The Central government on Friday appointed Suneet Sharma as new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Indian Railway Board . Earlier, Suneet Sharma worked as General Manager in Eastern Railway.

STARS Project between Ministry of Education and World Bank

The Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education (GoI), and the World Bank (WB) have signed the Strengthening Teaching-Learning and Results for States Program (STARS) project . The project is a financial support agreement of Rs 5718 crore to strengthen the school education system in 6 Indian states – Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Odisha.

New CEO of the Ayushman Bharat scheme or the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana

R. S. Sharma, formar Chairman of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of the Ayushman Bharat scheme or the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY). PMJAY is a component under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme, is an insurance scheme by the National Health Authority’s (NHA)
